I suggest we take off from
the beginning, now that we still can do sothat people
have to consider you as a project. Can you give e few
words explenation hereabout, because there isn’t
actually such a big difference, and you had time enough
to make music under another bandname in the meanwhile, or
didn’t you?. About 3 years ago you started this band/project,
although you point out
Wir hatten
nie vor, eine Band zu gründen. Wir haben uns durch
Zufall zusammengefunden und da ich als DJ bestimmte
musikalische Vorstellungen hatte, wie haben wir
angefangen mit Sounds zu experimentieren, um einen Stil
zu finden, der sich von anderen Electro/Industrial-Bands
unterscheidet.
Wenn Du
dies als Projekt siehst, bist Du nicht so abhängig, wie
in einer Band, sondern kannst auch ständig andere Sachen
machen und diese genauso wieder verwerfen, wenn Du
merkst, daß Du in einer Sackgasse landest...
Building a
band had never been our intention. It was just
coincidence and because of my work as a DJ I had certain
musical ideas. We started experimenting in order to find
a style that differs from all the other EBM/Industrial
bands. Regarding this as a project you are more
independent and more open for trying or dropping ideas if
you realise that you drive into an one-way street.
Can you tell since when
while your youth you first came in contact with this sort
of music (summarize some bands as an example) and what
motivated you to begin with it yourself? Is it possible
to describe the development from that moment until now,
shortly?
Die erste
Berührung mit elektronischer Musik hatte ich, als ich 16
war (ewig her) und ging so mit Bands, wie Kraftwerk,
Depeche Mode und Yaazoo los, dann kamen noch solche
Sachen, wie Front 242 usw. hinzu. Irgend-wann habe ich
dann mit Beam (unser Livedrummer) angefangen als DJ
aufzulegen. Lustigerweise war dann Felix einer unserer
Stammgäste und bekam so elektronische Musik infiziert.
Später kristallisierte sich dann ein gemeinsamer
Musikgeschmack heraus und da Felix ausgesprochen
musikalisch ist, begannen dann unsere Soundtüfteleien.
Was dabei heraus gekommen ist, weißt Du ja.
I had the
first contact with electric music when I was 16 (which is
long time ago) and it started with bands like Kraftwerk,
Depeche Mode and Yaazoo, later also bands like Front 242,
etc. Some time I started working as a DJ together with
Beam (our live drummer). Cheerfully Felix was one of our
regular and so he became infected by electric music.
Later we realised that we like the same music and because
Felix is a very musical guy we started working on our
sound. The result of our work you already know.
The past 3 years you have
not only worked on this album, but other things were
released by Feindflug as well, which ones exactly? (short
discografyalbum in ). On which level did your work
improve and which changes/adjustments have you made that
are characteristic for this addition to your earlier
work?
Nun, das
Album, welches Du kennst ist ja schon die vierte Auflage
unseres Albums, allerdings mit zwei anderen Tracks darauf.
Die ersten erschienen ja nur in streng limitierter
Auflage (30+30+100). 1998 erschien dann die MCD-Auskopplung
"I./St.G.3" und im Juni `99, wie gesagt,
nochmal das Album und im November die "Im Visier"-MCD.
Einige Samplerbeiträge, wie auf dem "Wellenreiter
in Schwarz Vol. III" und der "Nightingale
Compilation" sowie exklusive Beiträge auf dem
"ElectroMania Vol. I", der "Black Rain
Compilation" und dem "not made by industry II".
Am Anfang
war unser Sound halt noch etwas experimentierfreudiger,
bei den Veröffentlichungen hatten wir dann schon so
unsere Linie gefunden.
Well, the
album you know is the fourth release of our album but
including two new tracks. The first releases were
strictly limited (30+30+100 copies). 1998 the first MCD
"I./St.G.3" was released, in June 1999 the
album came out, followed by the MCD "Im Visier"
in November. There are also songs on some compilations
like "Wellenreiter in Schwarz Vol. III" and
"Nightingale Compilation". Further we did
exclusive tracks for the compilations "ElectroMania
Vol. I", "Black Rain Compilation" and
"not made by industry II".
At the very
beginning our sounds was more experimental but since the
releases we have found our own style.
This debut album is
entitled "Vierte version", whereof did you
derive this name and what’s the meaning in the
context of this CD? What does Feindflug actually means?
Nein, der
Titel des Albums ist nicht "Vierte Version".
Das Album heißt ebenfalls Feindflug und ist halt die
vierte Version davon. Dies ist ein häufiges Mißverständnis.
Feindflug ist ein militärischer Ausdruck und bedeutet
"Flug gegen den Feind".
Well, "Vierte
Version" is not the title of the album. The album is
also entitled "Feindflug" but it is its fourth
release. This misunderstanding is done frequently.
Feindflug is a militaristic expression and means an air
raid against an enemy. If there is war and air planes are
on there way for attacking the enemy they are on there
Feindflug.
How would you describe
your music, what’s the difference with electo and/
or industrial? Where you in some way influenced by other
bands during the period since Feindflug’s existence,
which ones?
Electro-Industrial
oder wie auch immer. Wir bewegen uns halt im Raum
zwischen EBM und Noise und fühlen uns dort auch ganz
wohl. Einflüsse gibt es immer, allerdings nehmen wir das
im Moment nicht so bewußt war und ich könnte Dir keine
Namen aufzählen
Its Electro-Industrial
or what ever. We do something between EBM and noise and
feel pretty well with it. There are always influences but
at the moment we don’t really realise them and I
could not mention any band names.
What does this music mean
to you, is there a more profound meaning unto this, to
choose for this sort of music? What is, according to you,
the background and ideology behind electro and industrial
music all about?
Es ist
einfach unser Musikgeschmack, der sich sowohl im Hören,
als auch im Erschaffen darstellt. Der Hintergrund von
Electro-Industrial ist einfach harte tanzbare Musik,
fernab von elektronischen Schnulzen oder auch
undefinierbarem Noise.
We just like
as well listening to this kind of music as producing it.
The background of Electro-Industrial is tough but
danceable music, which is far away from schmaltzy
electric songs or indefinable Noise.
Why did you choose for the
subject "Nazis" for this album? Can you guys
explain extensive what this is all about, and what were
your intentions to handle this subject? You are against
all prejudice or everything that could relate you to
fascism, ca you explain this as well.
Wir werden
als Nazis beschimpft, weil die meisten Leute sich mit
unseren Sachen überhaupt nicht auseinandersetzen. Die
sehen nur die Bilder, hören ein Sample, aber begreifen
nicht das ganze Album als Einheit. Und eben da liegt der
Schlüssel zum verstehen, denn das Album beinhaltet auch
wesentliche Sachen, die ein ganz anderes Blickfeld auf
dieses Thema ermöglichen. Das Album ist nichts weiter,
als ein geschichtlicher Zyklus über Deutschland von 1933
bis 45, ohne jede Verherrlichung. Wir sind definitv der
Meinung, daß sich auch jeder Zuhörer selbst Gedanken
machen sollte. Wozu hat man denn einen Kopf?! Wir sind
kein politisches Projekt!!!
We are abused
as Nazis because many people don’t really think
about the topics we deal with. They only see the
pictures, listen to the samples but don’t see them
as a whole. But that’s the key to understanding the
album. Because it contains a lot of aspects that allow a
completely different point of view on this topic. This
album will just point out the epoch in German history
from 1933 to 1945 without any kind of glorification. The
project definitely does not stand for fascist opinions
but for make people thinking about. Whatfor does one have
a brain else?We are definitely not a political project!!!
What’s your opinion
about religions like Protestants, Catholics, Islam,
Judeo, Orthodox, how do you feel about this sort of
fascism ruling our own world and environment?
All diese
Religionen rekrutieren ihre "Anhänger" durch
Unterdrückung, Zwang und Lügen.
All these
religions recruit their "disciple" by
oppression and lies.
As far as I understand,
you talk about the threat of millions of individuals by
the new technological warfare, explain this? Do you maybe
support the human kind more than the existence of nature?
Don’t you think this warfare is caused thanks to the
fact that there are too many people living on this earth?
Nein, die
Natur ist wichtiger. Wir sind nur einTeil davon und überschätzen
uns selbst total. Ja, sicherlich sind wir schon soweit,
daß Kriege vor allem um Resourcen (Wasser, Erdöl) geführt
werden, aber denkst Du nicht auch, daß sich der Mensch
zu einer neuen Qualität entwickeln müßte, um diesen
Kreislauf zu durchbrechen?!
No, nature is
more important. We are all part of it but we overrate
ourselves. Of course we are already at the point where
wars are caused because of resources (water, oil) but do
you really disagree that mankind has to develop a new
quality for breaking out of this circle?
Can you name some of your
favourite bands?
Swamp
Terrorists, Knorkator, Vangelis, Fear Factory, Kraftwerk
und Totenmond.
A few statements attracted
my attention like, "Musicians against copyrighting
of samples" and "Use your Brain and think about
it", how do we have to interpret them? A few words
explenation would be interesting?
Es sollte
schon gestattet sein, ein Instrument aus einem anderen Stück
zu sampeln, um dies entsprechend zu verfremden. Die
Gestze lassen hierfür allerdings nicht viel Spielraum.
Deshalb dieser Satz!
Die zweite
Aussage ist als zusätzlicher Hinweis zum aktivieren der
Gehirnfunktionen gedacht, wenn man unser Album hört. (Und
diesen Satz auch versteht!)
It should be
allowed sampling an instrument out of an other song for
alienating it. But there is no space for this by law.
That’s the background of this sentence!
The second
statement is an additional advise for using your brain
while listening to our album.
I was one of the
privileged persons to see you live on the Wave/Gotik
Treffen in Leipzig. Can you describe to the readers/
listeners how your live shows look like?
Unsere
Auftritte bleiben meistens im Gedächtnis der Zuschauer,
da wir nicht einfach nur rumstehen, wie andere Kollegen,
sondern durchaus auch etwas auf der Bühne passieren kann.
Wer wissen will was, muß zu unseren Konzerten erscheinen...
Many visitors
keep our gigs in mind because there is action on stage
instead of just standing around like many of our
colleagues do. Those who like to know what happens
exactly on stage has to come to our gigs ...
Many say that Feindflug is
kind of a continuance of Ramstein in the scene, is it
really true that you are commercial focused or do you
rather try to remain on the background before you are
presumed fake. Would you mind to be a part of the trend,
make videoclips and being heard on every radiostation?
What do you think about this fact?
Ich glaube
nicht, daß wir in irgendeiner Weise mit Rammstein
vergleichbar sind. Furchtbare Vorstellung! Du kennst
selbst unsere Musik und wirst erkennen, daß sie nie überall
zu hören sein wird. Wir sind nicht in erster Linie
kommerziell orientiert, denn dann würden wir eher
leichte Tanzmusik machen und wären damit auch wesentlich
erfolgreicher. Wir sind nur an ehrlicher Musik
interessiert.
I think in
some kind we are comparable with Rammstein. What a
horrifying idea! You know our music and so you will
realise that it will never be played everywhere. If we
would focus on commercial success we would make softer
dance music. We are just interested in honest music.
Here we come to an end,
what can we expect from Feindflug in the future? Some
last words?
Es wird
demnächst eine neue Veröffentlichung von uns geben. Wie
diese ausfällt...? Ihr werdet sehen. Auf jeden Fall
werden wir nur das machen, was wir wollen!
